Free Edge Furniture originates in the North Olympic Peninsula, Washington State. We specialize in creating furniture and objects noted for their use of highly figured Western Big Leaf Maple; a native hardwood that thrives on the Olympic Peninsula and is prized by furniture makers and Luthiers the world over.
From a hand crafted cabin studio nestled in the Olympic wilderness alongside the East Twin River,
Free Edge Furniture creates benches, tables, shelving and custom items for homes and offices.
We focus on unique designs with hand cut joinery to build beautiful furniture that can last for generations.
We use sustainably harvested Western Big Leaf Maple; we take the mill to the log or the log to the mill. We collect the figured maple and process it for future projects. Wood slabs are kiln dried or air dried for over a year before being selected for a project. The natural “free” edge is always incorporated prominently. “Go figure.”
The ability to meet a customer’s unique demands is always an important goal; commissions for custom pieces are welcome.Large table, desk, bench seating and wall shelving can be designed, built and installed with professional care. We can use our savings on figured maple to offer competitive prices.
Free Edge Furniture sells figured maple slabs directly to luthiers and finished pieces through the following furniture stores:
